KBS Awards 2012 Grant to University of Texas

We are pleased to announce that the University of Texas at Houston has been awarded the KBS 2012 research grant.  This grant is for over $96,000, and is a two year study that will be headed by Dr. Shervin Assassi.  It is entitled “Molecular Changes following Treatment with Cyclophosphamide or Autologous Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation in patients with Systemic Sclerosis.” We know the title makes for less than a compelling read for most people, but this is a very important study.  It will be a very precise look at the changes that occur at the cellular level for two very different kinds of treatment. One of the major goals is to establish bio markers that can be predictive in establishing the best treatment option for future patients. The grant is for a total of $96,548. The expected term of the research project is two years.
